When Hairstyles Attack: Part 1

I'll admit it, I was born in the eighties.  This might not seem like much of an admission, but when I say I was born in the eighties, it means I sufferred from a couple of bad hair trends.  Rather than hide my mistakes, I'm going to throw them out there in the hopes that someone out there will find comfort in my pain.

1.  Bangs, bangs, and more bangs!
I know I'm not the only one that was attacked by the dreaded bangs, and to be honest, I think little girls need to have bangs.  For many women, it's the only time in their life that they'll look good with hair over their eyes.

2.  Barrettes
Alright, this isn't too bad.  In my mother's defense, I had some unruly hair and I had a lot of it.  So barrettes were the perfect solution to keeping my hair out of my face (and my mouth!).

3.  Two tone Hair color
See those tips?  Well it might be hard to see, but they're really light at the ends.  That's right, my hair started off lighter and as I entered into my toddler years, my hair grew darker and the ends lightened even more.  Shortly after this photo, I took a pair of scissors and cut off my own hair.  My mother cried, and then she got over it gracefully.  My payback is that I'll probably have a daughter do the same thing.

4.  The bowl cut
I apparently dodged getting the bowl cut for many years, it wasn't until I was 17 years old that the cut got to me.  Granted, I had a great stylist and she was able to smooth it out and give me some great color.  But let's just call it what it is: a bowl cut.

5.  Roots (not the miniseries)
I let my desire for light hair get away from me for several years, and this is what can happen...

6.  The Bangs, Part 2
Now you see (with the side by side comparison with a little kid) why bangs on grown ups shouldn't happen.

7.  Wigs
Granted, this was a Halloween party.  However, there's no excuse.  I should never be a blonde.  It's too much.

As you can see, I've toned it down and cleaned it up over the past 3 or 4 years.  Simple brown tones.  Great cuts with simple layers and a lot of movement.  My hair is getting pretty long and I'm about to get to the time when I need to decide what I'm going to do with it.

Do I keep up my Brazillian Blowout treatments and keep it long?  Or do I chop it off and grow it out all over again?

Now here's your challenge:  If you have a blog, I dare you to dig up some old photographs and bare your bad hair moments!

Great post! I loved all the changes throughout the years! However, I will not be participating in a post of my own bc I've lost so many pictures in computer crashes and moves. I had bangs too, but the kind where part of them are down and the top layer is teased back. sic 80s and instead of barrettes i had gigantic bows. sigh, so glad the 80s are over.

Thanks! I have a great stylist and I think the Brazillian Blowout is PERFECT for my type of hair.
